Herzing College COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

1. PURPOSE
This policy was implemented in accordance with health authorities guidelines requiring vaccination policies for certain high-risk settings including postsecondary institutions.

Herzing College is committed to providing a safe and healthy work and learning environment for our staff and students. It is for this reason that anyone attending on campus must be fully vaccinated.

2. APPLICATION

This policy took effect September, 2021. This Policy will remain in effect throughout the 2021-2022 academic year or until further notice. This Policy does not affect anyone involved in remote learning and teaching.

3. DEFINITIONS

“Fully Vaccinated” means having received the full series of the Vaccine or combination of COVID-19 vaccines approved by the World Health Organization or Health Canada (e.g., two doses of a two-dose Vaccine or a single dose of a single dose Vaccine) and having received the final dose of the Vaccine at least 14 days prior.

“Rapid Antigen Testing” means testing for the presence of the COVID-19 virus using kits provided by Herzing College.

“Vaccine” means a Health Canada or World Health Organization approved COVID-19 vaccine.

“Required Individuals” means all employees, staff, contractors, volunteers, visitors and students who attend on campus.

4. PROOF OF VACCINATION
All required individuals must be Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of attending a Herzing College campus to work or study. All Required Individuals will be required to provide proof, in the form of a dose administration receipt, of having been Fully Vaccinated before they will be allowed to enter on campus.

5. EXEMPTIONS

Exemptions will be provided to individuals who do not provide proof of being Fully Vaccinated if they provide Herzing College with:

(a) written proof of a medical reason, provided by a physician or registered nurse that sets out a documented reason for not being Fully Vaccinated and the effective time period for the medical reason; or

(b) proof of completing an educational session approved by Herzing College about the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination prior to declining vaccination for any reason other than a medical reason.

Individuals provided with either of the above exemptions must submit to regular Rapid Antigen Testing and demonstrate a negative test result at intervals to be determined by Herzing College, at least once every seven (7) calendar days to gain access or remain on campus. If the Rapid Antigen Testing shows a positive test result, the individual will not be granted access on campus until a negative test result is achieved.

Herzing College will consider requests for exemptions from students and employees based on medical grounds and/or because of their creed/religion in accordance with the provincial Human Rights Code. To continue to protect the health and safety of the campus community, at Herzing College’s sole discretion, students and employees with an approved exemption to being Fully Vaccinated, may be accommodated through measures other than being granted access to a campus.

The above exemptions do not apply to contractors, visitors and other attendees who attend on campus. Contractors must ensure that all of their employees are Fully Vaccinated. All Contractors (including their employees) and visitors or other attendees, who are not Fully Vaccinated are not allowed on campus.

All required individuals must complete and execute the "Acknowledgement Form."

6. CONFIDENTIALITY

All personal information and personal health information collected will be used only for the purposes stated in this policy, shared only on a need-to-know basis, stored securely and deleted permanently when it is no longer required for such purposes.

7. NON-COMPLIANCE

Required individuals failing to follow this Policy may be subject to disciplinary actions, up to and including expulsion for students, termination of employment for employees, termination of contracts for contractors and removal from campus for visitors or other attendees, and any other remedies that may appropriate in the circumstances at the discretion of Herzing College.

8. NON-RETALIATION

Herzing College prohibits any form of discipline, reprisal, intimidation or retaliation for reporting a violation of this Policy or any other health and safety concern.

9. AMENDMENTS
Herzing College will review this policy and reserves the right to modify it at any time in its sole discretion to adapt to the evolving nature of the pandemic, vaccine availability and government and public health authority direction.

A Message from our Founder

Society is faced with unprecedented challenges and disruption of everyday life. What we want to assure you of is that this disruption need not apply to your education.

Henry Herzing

Our goals now are to function in conformance with recommended guidelines for minimizing health risks to our personnel and you students while we do our utmost to continue your education regardless of the program you are in. I thank you for your understanding as some of you are adapting to a different instructional process.

Fortunately, Herzing College has had years of experience in teaching in an online environment and significant resources to call upon to effectuate and enrich the process. You may be interested in knowing that the satisfaction of our online students is as great or greater than that of our in school students. We understand that some programs require hands on experience, and if it becomes necessary, we will work within recommended health guidelines, such as with small groups with social distancing, if that will conform with health guidelines as they evolve.

For the last 55 years, we have been committed to the well-being of our students and we assure you we will, to the best of our ability, continue to provide the same level of service to our students during this uncertain period.

There may be challenges that we have yet to encounter or anticipate, but we will do our utmost to overcome them.

We appreciate you being a student with us.

Sincerely,

Henry Herzing
